Safeguarding Bristol Bay: A Victory for American Jobs, Anglers & Hunters

Thank YOU, PRESIDENT TRUMP, for defending alaska’s most valuable salmon fishery

President Trump’s bold action on Bristol Bay was celebrated by hunting and fishing organizations across the country. They thanked him via a public advertisement in the Wall Street Journal in 2020.

During President Trump’s first administration, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers denied the permit application for the proposed Pebble Mine, safeguarding Bristol Bay’s world-renowned hunting and fishing grounds. This commonsense decision protected thousands of American jobs, bolstered hundreds of businesses, and maintained a sportsmen’s paradise that generations will continue to enjoy.

Alaskans stand with President Trump

Fishing is more than a tradition here, it’s an economic cornerstone, supporting over 15,000 American jobs and generating $2.2 billion annually. The overwhelming majority of Alaskans, along with hunters, anglers, and outdoor enthusiasts nationwide, recognize that Bristol Bay’s world class fisheries are essential to both Alaska’s economy and the American way of life. Alaska's U.S. Senators Dan Sullivan and Lisa Murkowski voiced strong support for the Army Corp Permit Denial.

Wrong mine, wrong place: A landscape that works hard for americans is no place for a foreign owned mine

Due to its size, type, and location, the proposed Pebble Mine has been proven to be incompatible with Bristol Bay’s world-renowned salmon fishery which provides half of the world’s wild salmon supply. Maintaining this reliable source income for both commercial and sportfishing operations is just good business. This fishery pays for itself, supports American workers, and will continue doing so indefinitely as long as we safeguard it.

If Pebble’s efforts to overturn President Trump’s 2020 decision are successful, Pebble’s profits would flow to Canadian-owned Northern Dynasty Minerals while American fishermen and Alaska business owners would face unacceptable risks. That is the opposite of America First. And it’s one of many reasons why a majority of Alaskans continue to oppose Pebble after nearly 20 years of false promises.
