Bristol Bay Native Corp. opposes Pebble
The Bristol Bay Native Corp. board voted Friday to oppose the development of the massive copper and gold Pebble prospect in Southwest Alaska and offshore oil and gas leasing in the Bering Sea. On Pebble, the company said it is against the proposed mine given "the unquantifiable impacts the project could have on the natural resources of the Bristol Bay region." Read more.
TU Urges Alaska Fish Board to Send Lawmakers Protection Message
Trout Unlimited remains optimistic that the Alaska Board of Fisheries will follow through on its pledge to write a letter to the state Legislature seeking new protection measures for Bristol Bay, where foreign companies want to build a massive gold and copper mine. Lobbyists for companies working to develop the proposed Pebble mine, in Bristol Bay's salmon-rich headwaters, pressured members of the fish board to abandon or water down the letter they said they would write.
